A TEENAGE boy, along with two friends, was recently apprehended for devising a scheme to stage his own “arrest” by impersonating policemen, to deceive his mother into paying for his “release”, as reported by Alor Gajah police chief Arshad Abu.
The 15-year-old student had failed to return home on November 25, leading to the subsequent encounter between the boy’s mother and one of the suspects, identified as Acap, a 29-year-old friend of her son, two days later.
Impersonating a policeman, he informed her that her son had been arrested and required a specific amount of money for his release.
Arshad revealed that on November 29, the 58-year-old woman, employed as a clinic assistant, withdrew RM25,000 from her Tabung Haji account and handed it over to Acap and another friend, aged 17, on the same day.
The son returned home the following day. However, upon checking with the Seremban police station, the woman was informed that there had been no such arrest.
Upon discovering that her son and his friends had deceived her, she promptly filed a report at the Masjid Tanah police station on December 2.
Arshad mentioned that the trio, despite having no prior criminal records, are to face charges tomorrow under section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. – Bernama, January 18, 2024.
