THE National Registration Department (NRD) carried out a planned operation in the early hours of this morning at various sites in Pulau Indah, Port Klang, to identify and apprehend foreigners engaged in the forgery and misuse of identity cards.
Collaborating with the Putrajaya Immigration Department, the operation, which lasted until 5am, involved the inspection of 12 houses across seven locations, with media representatives in attendance.
In a statement, the NRD explained that the operation was executed based on intelligence. As a result, three individuals were arrested for possession of counterfeit identity cards, which they were using to gain employment in the country.
“All of them were brought to the NRD in Putrajaya for further investigation. They did not have identification documents but held Persatuan Bajau cards,” it said.
The department said all of them worked as welders. One of them was said to be Filipino, while the other two claimed to be from Sabah.
“The operation, which involved 60 NRD and 23 Immigration personnel, also recovered many copies of Construction Industry Development Board cards and identity cards,” the statement said.
The NRD also reminded employers to ensure that they hire workers with valid identity documents. – Bernama, January 18, 2024.
