THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today said it had called in Daim Zainuddin’s wife, Na’imah Abdul Khalid, and two sons – Muhammad Amin Zainuddin and Muhammad Amir Zainuddin – to record their statements in an ongoing investigation against the former finance minister.

They were questioned at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

“They were called to give their statements to ascertain values of some of the high value assets domestic and abroad held under the companies belonging to them in relation to the investigation on the former finance minister Daim Zainuddin.

“A notice was served to Daim under Section 36(1)(a) MACC Act 2009 on June 7, 2023 while his family members were served notices under Section 36(1)(b) of the MACC Act 2009.

“As stated in the MACC Press Release dated 30 December 2024, investigations commenced in February last year based on information from the Pandora Papers,” the commission said in a statement.

Lawyer Rajesh Nagarajan, acting for the family, slammed MACC for its “giant fishing expedition”.

He said they were called in for questioning at 10.30am and exited MACC’s headquarters nine hours later.

“The entire questioning process was one giant fishing expedition,” said Rajesh, as quoted by Free Malaysia Today.

“They went on a fishing journey to try and find information to charge Daim.

“You’re not even disclosing what’s the offence. This is against natural justice,” he reportedly said.

MACC also revealed that it had recorded a statement from ex-prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to aid investigations into the usage of RM700 million spent on publicity and promotions during previous administrations today. – January 10, 2024.
