THE Works Ministry has allocated over RM50 million to repair roads damaged in floods throughout the country.
Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi said the allocation involved 81 projects in Kelantan, Terengganu, Johor and Pahang.
“The cost of conducting studies on and repairs to damaged roads amounted to RM10.6 million.
“We have carried out studies, and the repairs need more than RM50 million, with some of the projects having started implementation,” he said.
He said this to reporters after inspecting damaged roads and the construction of a bailey bridge at Km73.85, Jalan Kampung Sungai Sam-Jeli near Kampung Kubur Datu today.
He said the roads, which were damaged on Monday, were expected to be repaired in April before Hari Raya.
“This collapsed road was used by about 10,000 vehicles every day and to make it easier for the residents, a temporary route – a bailey bridge – was built to facilitate the movement of the residents and is expected to be completed on Wednesday.
“Repairs on permanent roads are being implemented and it will take more than two months to complete,” he said.
He said the financial ability to install glow-in-the-dark lines on the East-West Highway (Jeli-Grik) must be considered.
He said it would cost a lot to install the lines. – Bernama, January 6, 2024.
