AMPANG Jaya police chief Mohd Azam Ismail said that three local men were arrested yesterday in connection with the alleged assaults against an e-hailing driver on Jalan 8/3 Jalan Pandan Perdana, Ampang, on December 27.

The suspects, aged 25 to 48, were apprehended in Ampang and Pandan Indah between 7:30 pm and 9 pm. A bottle of pepper spray was seized during the arrests.

The incident occurred at 12:30am on December 27 when the victim approached one of the suspects at Jalan Pandan 8/3 Pandan Perdana, seeking an apology for a prior assault.

The victim reported that upon his arrival, an unidentified individual present at the scene unexpectedly attempted to strangle him.

Subsequently, the victim departed from the area, but he was pursued by the initial suspect and five other men to a nearby playground. There, he was subjected to assault with an iron rod, as well as kicks and punches by the suspect.

“Victim sustained injuries to his body and head,” Azam said in a statement today.

All suspects tested positive for cannabis, while two of them have previous criminal records.

“All three were remanded for four days, starting today, and the case is being investigated under section 148 of the Penal Code,” he said. – Bernama, January 4, 2024.
