PAHANG communications and multimedia, youth, sports and non-governmental committee chairman Fadzli Mohamad Kamal said communications service in several Orang Asli villages in Cameron Highlands had been disrupted after fibre optic cables were severed due to a landslide along the route from Lembah Bertam to Pos Lemoi on Wednesday.

In his Facebook post, Fazdli said that the affected villages include Pos Lemoi and Pos Telimau located about 20km from Ringlet.

“The Cameron Highlands Public Works Department is now carrying out road and hillside repair works.

“After that, the disconnected cables will be repaired to restore communication services. The works are expected to take some time because it involves several locations,” he said.

He added that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) would post updates on the repair work until services are fully restored.

It is understood that the MCMC received a complaint about the matter from an Orang Asli Development Department employee in the affected area yesterday.

Telecommunications provider, Maxis, has been able to access the area today to identify the location of the damaged fibre optic cables to conduct repairs. – Bernama, December 30, 2023
