THE Central Database Hub (PADU), to be launched by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on January 2, would not be integrated with bank information systems, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli said.

At a press conference in Putrajaya today, he said the country’s banking system is governed by the Financial Services Act 2013, which does not permit data sharing.

“If it involves banks, (then) there is (no integration) as banks have the Financial Services Act, which does not allow such sharing,” he said when asked to respond to public concerns on whether banking data would be integrated with PADU.

Rafizi said examples of data on PADU would be personal data from the National Registration Department, information from the Education Ministry and Higher Education Ministry, and address information from utility companies such as Tenaga Nasional Bhd and water suppliers.

He said to encourage people to register and update their data in the system, PADU would collaborate with private firms including Touch ‘n Go, which has offered free near-field communication cards to the first 3,000 registrants.

Besides TnG, Rafizi said PADU has collaborated with Mydin to offer discounts, and encouraged all retailers to come up with promotions to boost public registration on the system. – Bernama, December 29, 2023.
