THREE media practitioners were stranded while surveying flood damage at the Kuala Betis Resettlement Scheme in Kota Baru. The journalists arrived at about 9.54am to survey the relief centre at SK Kuala Betis, housing flood evacuees.

Part-time Bernama reporter Siti Maisarah Ahmad, Aimuni Tuan Lah from Kosmo! and Berita Harian’s Paya Linda Yahya were stranded.

“We came by car, at that time, vehicles could still use the Kuala Betis road, water hadn’t even reached road surface level yet.

“However, at around 10.15am the water rose suddenly following the overflow of Sungai Kuala Betis, and submerged part of the road and the Sungai Betis bridge,” she said when contacted, today

“It is understood that we will be brought out of the centre on a Gua Musang Malaysian Civil Defence Force lorry after the evacuations in the surrounding area are completed by about 4pm.

“However, we’ll have to leave the car here until the water recedes and the route is safe to travel on,” she said. – Bernama, December 25, 2023
