KAMPUNG Kelewek residents in Tanah Merah have asked their local authority to build drains along Jalan Jedok to avoid flooding during heavy rain.

A resident, Mohd Ridho Ibrahim, 42, whose house is 20m from the road, said the area would flood every time it rained heavily.

“This year alone, my house has been flooded seven to eight times. This happens because there is no drainage in the area,” he said when met by Bernama at his home today.

Another resident, Aizat Seman, 31, said drainage was important so water from the road could be channelled to Sungai Manal about 1km away.

“I hope the construction of this drain can be done as soon as possible because it will not only prevent flooding, but save the lives of road users,” he said.
