POLICE have denied issuing an advisory about a SIM swap scam.

Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said police detected the message being circulated on WhatsApp and Facebook, allegedly coming from “PDRM CCID”.

“The message is fake. This department has never disseminated such a message and no police reports have been received concerning this modus operandi,” he said in a statement today.

The message said a victim would receive a call and be asked to press “1” on their phone, leading to their device being taken over by a hacker who transfers all the victim’s money to another account.

Ramli reminded all phone users not to click on suspicious links and not to follow instructions from unknown people.

He said the CCID would issue advisories and announcements via its official print and social media, and on its official portals.

Ramli reminded the public to contact their nearest police station or the CCID Infoline at 013-211 1222 with queries. – Bernama, December 24, 2023.
