ELECTIONS suggested for local authorities must ensure a win-win situation for all races, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said.

Mohamad, who is also agriculture and food security minister, said discussions and in-depth studies must be done to ensure all races are satisfied and feel secure with the implementation of the elections.

“If chosen by the people, one must work diligently for the people’s interests, not the party’s. It is necessary to win the people’s hearts and ensure no one is left behind,” he said at the Amanah national convention in Klang today.

The proposal gained attention after Federal Territories DAP chairman and Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai presented it at the recent DAP convention to strengthen democracy in the Federal Territories.

Mohamad said he believed unity government components could secure the four states held by Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the next general election (GE).

He said this was based on his observation that the unity government has managed to regain the support of civil servants, adding that support from Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional components would strengthen the coalition.

“We practise political moderation. I believe our unity will thrive, so that in the next GE, the unity government will return to government in style,” he said.
