Cop in student road death passed drug test, say police


POLICE have received 12 reports about an incident where a Form 5 student was allegedly killed after being rammed by a car driven by an officer in Ipoh.

Perak police chief Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the case was being investigated under section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving and section 302 of the penal code for murder.

The top cop said the 44-year-old officer, who was arrested Friday, passed a drug test.

“We have taken samples of his blood and are waiting for the pathology report,” he said as reported by The Star.

On Friday, it was reported the victim, Muhammad Zaharif Affendi Muhd Zamrie, 17, died at Jalan Taman Jati in the 12.40pm incident.

A post-mortem found the SMK Jati student died due to chest and abdominal injuries.

The suspect is being remanded until tomorrow to facilitate investigations. – December 17, 2023.
