SELANGOR police chief Hussein Omar Khan said no new leads have emerged in the investigation into the murder of six-year-old autistic boy Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin.

However, he said police have recorded 172 statements from residents at Idaman Apartment in Damansara Damai, Petaling Jaya, where Zayn’s body was discovered.

“The investigation is ongoing, and so far, no new leads have been found. My team continues to search for clues in the area,” Hussein said when contacted.

Yesterday, a forensic team from Bukit Aman and Selangor headquarters conducted a reenactment of events leading to Zayn’s death in his neighbourhood.

The team arrived at the apartment blocks in Damansara Damai around 11am, accompanying a child who had allegedly seen Zayn on the evening of his disappearance on December 5. The child reenacted the boy’s movements.

The forensic team carried out the reenactment at Block R before taking the child witness to the staircase near some bushes.

However, the media could only take pictures and observe from a distance and were not allowed to approach the apartment area.

The reenactment involved two child witnesses – friends of the victim aged six and nine – was to determine if there was any new evidence from the staircase of Block R leading to the creek where Zayn’s body was found.

A day ago, police conducted mass screenings of residents, leading to the discovery of two children who claimed they saw Zayn on the second and third floors of Block R at the apartment on December 5.

Police had previously recorded statements from 86 individuals to facilitate the case and collected an additional 10 DNA samples, bringing the total to 238 samples collected so far.

Zayn was reported missing on December 5 in Damansara Damai, and on the following day, his body was found in a creek about 200m from his residence. – December 16, 2023.
