RAMKARPAL Singh’s decision to quit willingly when his older brother Gobind Singh Deo was to be made minister again, showed DAP’s dedication to eliminating nepotism within the party, secretary-general Anthony Loke said.

Loke said Ramkarpal’s decision will help prevent any conflict of interest and is a recognition of his older brother’s capabilities.

“Despite Ramkarpal’s substantial contributions and assistance in formulating legal reforms within his ministry, he willingly sacrificed his position to make way for his older brother.

“This sacrifice in vacating the position also aims to dispel criticisms of nepotism within DAP,” he told the media at the party headquarters after the cabinet reshuffle today.

Gobind Singh Deo returns to the Malaysian federal government Cabinet as a full minister, while Ramkarpal Singh resigns from a deputy minister role after a one-year term.

Loke also dismissed criticism of a bloated cabinet following the rejig, saying no decision made will satisfy all parties.

“With whatever decision, there will be people who agree, disagree or criticise. That is to be expected.

“There were calls for a second finance minister and now a second finance minister has been created. Yet there will be criticism of why the cabinet was enlarged,” Loke told the media.

The rejig saw the cabinet size increase of three new ministers appointed, from 28 to 31 ministers.

The number of deputy ministers also swelled from 27 to 29. – December 12, 2023.
