POLICE are investigating if six-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin had been sexually assaulted before he was murdered.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan told The Malaysian Insight his officers are probing into the possibility but declined to say more.

“God willing, we will find the culprit behind this murder,” said Hussein.

In a press conference earlier, Hussein said investigators have collected DNA and fingerprint evidence in connection with the case.

He said mass DNA screenings will be carried out, “including of groups of registered sex offenders”.

Yesterday, the clothes on Zayn’s body when he was found was sent to the Chemistry Department for analysis.

Hussein said the information received so far was very limited and police were working hard to gather information while waiting for the results of the forensic analysis from the Chemistry Department.

On December 6, Zayn, who was autistic, was found dead by a creek about 200m from his home in Idaman Apartments, Damansara Damai in Petaling Jaya.

His body was discovered by a search party out to find the boy, who was reported missing on the afternoon of December 5.

Police initially suspected that the boy had drowned, but reclassified the case to murder after a post-mortem revealed that he had been strangled. – December 10, 2023.
