Remand order extended against trio over elderly’s murder


POLICE have obtained a three-day remand extension against three people over the murder of a senior citizen, who was stabbed 27 times at an apartment car park in Jalan Perak, on Tuesday.

Acting Timur Laut district police chief V. Saravanan, said the remand order against two men and one woman, aged 29 to 42, ended today.

“Police have obtained an order to extend the remand order against the three individuals, to enable us to carry out further investigations into the murder case.

“The three suspects are close friends of the elderly man who died,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

He said the probe, under section 302 of the penal code, was ongoing, and urged the public or witnesses who had information to pass it on to the police.

“Police are also tracking down witnesses to assist in investigations, and we are also examining the closed circuit television camera footage found at the location,” he said.

In the 6.18pm incident, the victim, who was in his 60s, was attacked before being repeatedly stabbed, especially in the neck and chest, before he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Penang Hospital. – Bernama, December 8, 2023.
