THREE DAP leaders have filed suits against PAS’ Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura Muhammad for alleging in a recent ceramah they were related to former communist leader Chin Peng as well as Singapore’s first prime minister, the late Lee Kuan Yew.

The defamation suits were filed by DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, his father Lim Kit Siang and Seputeh MP Teresa Kok via Messrs SN Nair & Partners on Monday at the George Town High Court.

In separate writs and statements of claim, the trio claimed Siti Mastura, at the ceramah in Kemaman, made several statements directly and indirectly referring to them, implying they were linked to the communist party and that they supported, practised and spread communist ideology and philosophy in the country.

They said Siti Mastura’s statements said the three plaintiffs were enemies of the state, disloyal to the king and country, and were disloyal citizens who practised prohibited ideologies.

They also said the statement contained details they posed a threat to national security, in addition to alleging they were part of the “Lim Clan” that aimed to form a “cadre” – a term commonly used in the communist party – in DAP to spread communist ideology and philosophy.

The plaintiffs said Siti Mastura’s allegations were unfounded, false and malicious for deliberately associating them with the communist party and Chin Peng.

“The defendant’s actions are clearly driven by deception to gain publicity to boost the image of the defendant’s political party,” they said.

All three demanded general, aggravated and exemplary damages, and an injunction to prevent the defendant from continuing to publish the same statements.

The court set December 12 and 19 for case management. – Bernama, November 29, 2023.
