OPPOSITION lawmakers have shifted support to the government because of the administration’s achievements, not due to financial enticement, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said.

Anwar, who is also finance minister, said he has never induced opposition MPs to back him.

“They (opposition leaders) said we bribed them. No.

“I did not meet them before they made their decision. When they wanted to meet me, I told them to make a decision first, then we could meet.

“Their decision (to support the government) is because they know our policy and they see the development of the economy and the country,” the PKR president said while closing the party’s annual congress today in Putrajaya.

The four MPs who pledged their support for Anwar were Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Zahari Kechik (Jeli).

Anwar reiterated the government under his leadership was “very stable” and there was no need to worry about its collapse.

“Of course Perikatan Nasional will say things like this government is shaky and that there is no hope for this government, to prevent its members from leaving.
