JOHOR Works, Transportation and Infrastructure Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said the state government would present a working paper on the proposed local light rail transit (LRT) system to the federal government after a November 30 meeting.
“The meeting, which will involve various agencies, will discuss and refine the proposal to implement the project. We also need to conduct a comprehensive study that takes into account the situation in Johor Baru.
“After the meeting, the state government will present the (working) paper to the federal government so the project can be implemented,” he told reporters in Kota Iskandar today.
He said the study would involve agencies such as the Johor Public Transport Corporation and the Iskandar Regional Development Authority.
Fazli said the proposed LRT project, spanning nearly 30km comprising three lines – Tebrau, Skudai and Iskandar Puteri – was estimated to cost RM20 billion.
On Thursday, Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi while tabling Johor’s Budget 2024 said the high-speed railway and LRT projects must be activated soon to make the state a main investment destination in the region. – Bernama, November 26, 2023.
