BUKIT Tinggi and Bentong in Pahang was hit yesterday by major floods, forcing road closures during a downpour that lasted for several hours last night.

Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman posted on X the floods had hit the Bukit Tinggi police station and its surrounding areas at about 10pm.

“I have contacted the ministry and government agency involved to conduct a follow up on the incident.

“I was informed that the officer in charge of the Bukit Tinggi police station and personnel were at the location.

“The Genting Highlands and Bentong police stations also rendered assistance. The Bentong traffic police and MPV will be deployed to the location to facilitate traffic movements,” she posted last night.

The video footage of the incident that went viral showed heavy rain coming down from the high areas to flood the low-lying area in the town of Bukit Tinggi.

In the video recording, several vehicles were caught in the flood and property was swept away by the strong currents.

Syefura also said she has requested the cooperation of the Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry to immediately repair the damaged area.

She also urged chalet operators, boarding houses and visitors who are camping in Janda Baik and Bukit Tinggi to be alert to the current weather conditions, and to comply with the authorities’ instructions if there is a need to evacuate. – November 26, 2023.
