DEPUTY Human Resources Minister Mustapha Sakmud said his ministry is committed to addressing job mismatch issues in accordance with industry needs, particularly among graduates from higher educational institutions.

He said the country’s economy is doing well, providing numerous job opportunities. However, some positions may remain unfilled, possibly due to a mismatch between the qualifications of jobseekers and industry demand.

Various initiatives were undertaken by agencies under his ministry, including through various career carnival programmes, he added.

“We see many job opportunities, but the issue is that graduates’ qualifications may not match industry needs. So, we are working on aligning them through different initiatives. I am confident that even at the university level, efforts are in place to make everything industry driven.

“We understand the industry’s needs. Our goal is to minimise the number of job vacancies that do not align with the certificates, diplomas, or degrees holders and avoiding mismatches. That’s our focus,” he told reporters today.

Mustapha said several agencies, such as TalentCorp, are actively conducting programmes in universities nationwide to create profiles that align with industry requirements.

“If their qualifications do not match, the Social Security Organisation (Socso) has implemented a career development programme for the informal sector. Even if they are unemployed and their certificates do not match, they will receive training for three to six months so that they can be absorbed as skilled labour,” he said.

Mustapha said the career carnival programmes aimed to assist university graduates and final-year students, especially jobseekers, in finding employment matching their qualifications.

A total of 700 job opportunities were offered by 20 employers during the carnivals, including A&W Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Air Asia Bhd, and Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd, he added. – Bernama, November 24, 2023.
