TRANSPARENCY International Malaysia (TI-M) wants Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to disclose the achievements of each of his ministers in the past one year.

TI-M president Muhammad Mohan said that would show that the government was committed to reform, accountability and transparency.

“Not only will this convince the rakyat of the stability and capabilities of the appointed cabinet, but will serve as a basis for the prime minister to assess the performance of the various ministries in determining allocations as well as cabinet reshuffling,” he said in statement.

Muhammad said Anwar had taken over the administration of the country at a time when the economy was in tatters, inflation was rising and the ringgit was weak. Anwar also faced the constant threat of being ousted by the opposition, he said.

“Thus, it is commendable that the unity government, with the support of the various parties, leaders and civil servants has survived thus far, with minimal reports of infighting, friction, dirty laundry (being aired) or public drama.

“Yet the question remains: are all the ministers performing well to support the prime minister and  implementing projects to reform laws and improve the rakyat’s lives?”

He said the provision of a report card from the ministers will also have a positive impact on Malaysia’s standing in the Corruption Perceptions Index.

“Ministers need not worry even if their performance is short of the mark as the purpose of the report card is to clarify what has been done and to justify the challenges and complexities of implementation.

“The rakyat deserves to know one way or another.”

Muhammad said it is crucial for the ministers to send a clear message to Malaysians  and the international community that the country is on track towards accountability and reform.  – November 24, 2023.
