Health Ministry reports 28% spike in Covid cases

THERE was a 28% increase in the number of Covid 19 cases last week compared to the previous week, the Health Ministry said.

In a statement this morning, the ministry said 2,305 cases were reported November 12-18, an increase from the 1,801 cases reported November 5-11.

The ministry also said 21 Omicron cases were reported – 20 variant-of-concern cases and one variant-of-interest case.

“Admission rate of Covid-19 patients (including suspected cases) to health facilities dropped to two in a population of 100,000.

“Intensive care unit bed occupancy is at 0.4%, while the percentage of non-critical Covid-19 beds is 0.7%.

“Until now, the Covid-19 situation is still under control in Malaysia,” the ministry said.

The breakdown of Covid-19 cases over the past week: 143 cases in Sarawak, Selangor (136), Kuala Lumpur (119), Malacca (117), Johor (59), Kedah (52), Penang (37), Terengganu (24), Sabah (23), Kelantan (21), Negri Sembilan (16), Perlis (12), and nine each in Perak and Putrajaya while Pahang reported eight cases. – November 23, 2023.
