Perak flood fully recedes

FLOODS in Perak have fully receded, with the last relief centre at SK Alor Pongsu in Kerian closed this afternoon.

Perak Disaster Management Committee secretariat in a statement said 39 evacuees from the 14 families who were housed at the centre were allowed to go home.

“All evacuees were residents from Kampung Selekoh and Kampung Berisi, who have been sheltering at the centre since October 30,” it said.

The state Public Works Department said several roads were still closed, including FT 147 Jalan Selama in Kerian, with the public urged to use the alternative Jalan A111 Alor Pongsu-Bukit Merah Bypass.

In Batang Padang, only one lane on route FT 1152 Felda Trolak Selatan was open only to light vehicles as urgent repairs were needed on the main road due to a collapsed road shoulder.

“Only one lane is also open on route FT 001 Jalan Ipoh-Tanjung Malim to all vehicles, for the implementation of the Traffic Management Plan due to a landslide.

It said in Hilir Perak, a temporary warning signboard was installed on route A129 Jalan Langkap-Air Hitam, with road users urged to use the alternative route FT058.

IN KELANTAN, the number of evacuees at in six relief centres dropped slightly to 373 from 96 families as of 8.30pm compared with 376 victims from 97 families this morning.

The Disaster Info portal of the Social Welfare Department showed 312 evacuees in Pasir Puteh were sheltering at four relief centres – SK Dalam Rhu, SK Wakaf Raja, SK Sungai Petai and Dewan Kompleks Kamil – while in Bachok, 61 people were placed at SK Jelawat and SMK Beris Panchor.

IN TERENGGANU, the number of people housed at relief centres dropped from 4,773 at 10am to 3,751 as at 8pm.

The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the most affected district was Kuala Nerus, with 1,633 people from 436 families still housed at 15 centres.

In Kuala Terengganu, 1,087 people from 322 families were sheltering at five relief centres; in Marang, 732 people from 315 families were placed at seven relief centres; and in Besut, 673 people from 159 families were housed at four centres.

In Dungun, only 23 people from five families were still at SK Tok Kah.

The levels at several river stations, which previously showed alert, warning or dangerous readings, returned to their normal readings today.

Only Sungai Nerus in Kampung Bukit was still at alert level, and Parit Utama in Kuala Nerus was at danger level. – Bernama, November 22, 2023.
