THE Coldplay concert at Bukit Jalil National Stadium tonight will go on as scheduled but a “kill switch” will be employed should an untoward incident takes place.
Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the Central Agency for Application for Filming and Performance by Foreign Artistes (Puspal) had the discussed the matter with the concert’s organiser.
“Discussion with Puspal and the organiser has been positive. The prime minister (Anwar Ibrahim) has also said that the band is very supportive of Palestine.
“We are upbeat for the concert today,” he told reporters after attending the Digital Transformation Leader’s CxO Summit: Intelligent Digital Transformation in the 5G Era, in Kuala Lumpur, today.
Last month, the Communications and Digital Ministry said it had told organisers of concerts featuring foreign artistes to create a “kill switch” to avoid repeating the controversial episode by British band The 1975 at Good Vibes Festival 2023.
Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching said in the event the kill switch is applied, power supply will be cut so the concert cannot go on.
Fahmi also advised concert-goers to use public transport, which will be operating until late tonight to ease traffic movement.
Prior to this, several parties had called for the concert to be called off in respect of the conflict in Gaza.
