PUTRAJAYA has banned vape devices at the ministries facilities throughout the country, Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said.

She told parliament the cabinet had made the decision and all the ministry’s facilities are now no smoking and vaping zones.

“The decision, among other things, takes into account the 2004 Tobacco Product Control Regulations and the amended 2008 Tobacco Product Control Regulations that gazetted sports facilities such as stadiums and sports complexes as no smoking zones.

“Vaping at stadiums is prohibited. Vape devices are on the list of prohibited items like cigarettes, lighters, power banks and umbrellas because they are classified as weapons that can harm people.

“Security teams will conduct physical checks on spectators and those found vaping at sporting venues will face action,” she said, replying to points raised during the Budget 2024 debate at the committee stage today.

Yeoh said the ministry will inform the public about the ban through banners and displays on stadium scoreboards. –  November 21, 2023.
