Parliament to discuss move to collect taxes from shadow economy

THE government’s move to collect taxes from the shadow economy, which is estimated to contribute 30% to the GDP, is scheduled to be raised in the Dewan Rakyat today.

According to the order paper on the Parliament website, the matter will be raised by Ahmad Amzad Mohamed@Hashim (Kuala Terengganu-PN) to the finance minister during the question-and-answer session.

There will also be a question to the minister by Jimmy Puah Wee Tse (Tebrau-PH) regarding the amount that has been invested by government-linked companies and government-linked investment companies in Malaysia and abroad.

Puah also wanted to know whether this investment is in line with the government’s aspirations to strengthen the Malaysian equity market.

Noraini Ahmad (Parit Sulong-BN) will ask the health minister about the operational status, key targets and latest achievements of the National Centre of Excellence for Mental Health since its launch in October last year.

After the question-and-answer session, the Dewan Rakyat will continue with the debate on the Supply Bill 2024 at the committee level.
