THERE is no outbreak of tuberculosis (TB) in Cheras, according to the Health Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

She urged the public not to panic, adding the disease is under control in the country.

“There are TB incidences in Malaysia, but the Public Health department is monitoring it,” she told a press conference in Putrajaya today.

“We don’t want untruths to be spread and we don’t want the public to panic.

“There are cases of TB in the country, but they are under control.”

In the past week, photographs of notices at Cheras housing estates warning of a growing number of TB cases have gone viral on social media.

One notice sighted by The Malaysian Insight, purportedly put up by the Laman Midah Apartment management on November 15, had warned residents that the Cheras Health Department had confirmed an outbreak in the area on November 10.

Zaliha said people use the MySejahtera app to find out the number of TB cases in their neighbourhood.

The app tracker showed 11 TB cases were reported in Cheras in the past 60 days.
