128 flood evacuees remain in Perak, Kedah shelters

THE situation in the flood-hit areas of Kedah and Perak stayed unchanged overnight with 128 people still housed in six shelters in the two states today.

In KEDAH, the number of evacuees remained at 26 as of 8am.

Civil Defence Force Kedah Disaster Management Secretariat Division chief Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain said the evacuees were housed in Kota Setar and Kubang Pasu. 

“In Kota Setar, six victims from one family are housed in SK Titi Gajah while in Kubang Pasu, 20 victims from four families are taking shelter at SK Malau,” he said in a statement.

He said all the evacuees are expected to return to their homes later today when the floodwaters recede.

In PERAK, 102 evacuees from 29 households remain in four shelters in three districts.

The Perak State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat said that in Hilir Perak, 18 people from five families were at the Dewan Serbaguna Padang Tembak shelter.

In Kerian, the SK Changkat Lobak shelter is housing 18 people (three families) and the SK Alor Pongsu PPS has 57 evacuees (19 families).

In Kinta district, the number of evacuees at the Dewan Orang Ramai Taman Meru 2A shelter remains unchanged at nine people from two families. – Bernama, November 18, 2023.
