THE  Kemaman by-election will see a straight fight between Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and Barisan Nasional’s Raja Affandi Raja Noor.

They were the only two candidates to submit their names for nomination today.

PAS vice-president Samsuri, 53, is the Ru Redang assemblyman while BN direct candidate Raja Affandi is a retired general and former defence forces chief.

Early voting is on November 28 and polling day on December 2.

The 14-day campaign period for the by-election will begin today until 11.59pm on December 1.

A total of 141,790 voters are expected to cast their ballots in the by-election.

The by-election was called after the Terengganu Election Court nullified the victory of Che Alias Hamid of PAS, who won the parliamentary seat in the general election last year.

Che Alias won 65,714 votes in a four-way battle, defeating Ahmad Said of BN (38,535), Hasuni Sudin of Pakatan Harapan (8,340) and Rosli Ab Ghani of Pejuang (506).

Terengganu Meteorological Department director Rosli Zakaria advised those involved in the nomination process to be alert of the weather and changing environment as rain is expected all day in Kemaman. – Bernama, November 18, 2023.
