More flood evacuees in Kedah


ANOTHER relief centre has been opened in Kedah (Kota Setar) as more people were displaced by floods, while Perak’s victim numbers were unchanged this morning.

State Civil Defence Force disaster management secretariat chief Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain in a statement said the third relief centre in the Kedah district was opened at SK Taman Aman yesterday evening to house five victims from two families.

“The number of flood evacuees in the state rose to 231 people from 74 families, compared with 210 people from 68 families last night, when the number of victims at the SK Titi Gajah and SMK Alor Merah relief centres rose to 101 and 94, respectively,” he said.

In Kubang Pasu, Suhaimi said the number of flood victims housed at SK Malau, which has been open since Monday, remained at 31 people from seven families.

IN PERAK, the Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the number of evacuees remained at 178 people from 52 families at four relief centres.

The Padang Tembak multipurpose hall in Hilir Perak housed 89 people from 27 families, with 23 people from four families still at the SK Changkat Lobak centre and 57 people from 19 families at the SK Alor Pongsu centre in Kerian.

It said in Kinta, nine people from two families were sheltering at the Taman Meru 2A community hall. – Bernama, November 16, 2023.
