FORMER defence chief Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor has been named Barisan Nasional’s (BN) candidate for the Kemaman parliamentary by-election in Terengganu, slated for December 2.

BN President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced the candidacy at Menara Dato’ Onn today.

Zahid said Umno and BN had agreed on Raja Mohamed Affandi, 66, to wrest back Kemaman for BN.

The Election Commission has set polling for the by-election on December 2, while nomination day is November 18 and early voting will take place on November 28.

The by-election is being called after the Terengganu Election Court nullified the victory of Che Alias Hamid of PAS, who had been declared the winner of the Kemaman parliamentary seat in the last general election.

Meanwhile, Raja Mohamed Affandi, who served in the Malaysian Armed Forces for almost 40 years, described his candidacy as a call of duty, saying he would do his level best to win back Kemaman for BN.

“I thought long and hard about this offer… I think it’s about time for me to give back what I’ve gained for the past 40 years to the country, especially to Kemaman,” he said. – Bernama, November 13, 2023. – Bernama, November 13, 2023.
