BERSATU president Muhyiddin Yassin said the party would be lodging reports soon on alleged threats and bribes made to its members of parliament to support Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
He said the reports would be lodged with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the police “within a day or two”.
This comes after four of its MPs pledged support for the unity government without resigning to avoid breaching the anti-party hopping act.
Muhyiddin said the party had evidence of intimidation and preferential treatment regarding development allocations in these “defections”.
“We will lodge a report with the police and MACC, within a day or two, after we have gathered all the related information,” he said after chairing Bersatu’s top leadership meeting last night.
Jeli MP Zahari Kechik, Gua Musang MP Azizi Abu Naim, Labuan MP Suhaili Abdul Rahman, and Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid have stated their support for Anwar’s government in return for development funds for their constituencies.
Muhyiddin said Mohd Azizi had informed the party of the favours he was promised for supporting Anwar, which he declined to do.
“But after three days, he expressed his support (for Anwar). We suspect that something is going on that violates the rules,” said Muhyiddin.
The former prime minister said in Iskandar’s case, intimidation was used.
Muhyiddin also called for a review of the anti-party hopping law that was passed late last year.
He said there were several flaws that continued to allow for defections under certain conditions.
“There are flaws and we think it (anti-party hopping law) should be reviewed.”
He also alleged that Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul could be biased in deciding that the four Bersatu MPs had not violated the rules.
“The speaker, in this case, is a PKR stakeholder. His decision was somewhat influenced by the fact that he is a PKR member.
“Our views are not the same as the speaker as our views are based on the party’s constitution.
“There is some degree of injustice, or injustice that could be compromised.
“Hence, to enforce the punishment effectively, the punishment may not be effectively implemented (due to the flawed law),” he said. – November 10, 2023.
