BRITISH newspaper publisher Reach, whose titles include the Daily Mirror and Manchester Evening News, announced today plans to cut about 450 jobs, as the industry increasingly turns to online media.
Reach said about 10% of its workforce would be axed to further slash costs.
The group is already cutting costs by up to 6% this year and hopes to match this amount in 2024, having slashed a few hundred jobs early this year.
“Our industry has a history of change and the future will undoubtedly involve yet more,” chief executive Jim Mullen said in a statement outlining the latest cutbacks.
“That’s why it’s essential we set ourselves up to win, by making our operations suited to an increasingly fast-paced, competitive and customer-focused digital world.” – AFP, November 8, 2023.
