PRIME Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed Malaysia’s gratitude for Japan’s commitment to addressing Israeli settlements in Palestine and for providing aid to Gaza.
He also commended Japan’s support for peace in a region marred by conflicts, noting the impact of the recent bombings.
“The damage in Gaza has exceeded that of Hiroshima during World War II,” Anwar said during a joint press conference with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida in Putrajaya today.
Malaysia anticipates collaborating with Japan, currently a member of the UN Security Council, to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinians.
Turning to regional matters, Anwar highlighted Malaysia and Japan’s commitment to strengthen and preserve regional peace. This pledge extends to exploring cooperation in the defence industry and maritime sector.
Both countries have agreed to establish a Tsukuba University Branch Campus in Malaysia. Anwar said this would provide students with increased exposure and access to Japan’s high-quality education system.
Anwar also sought support from Kishida for a collaboration with Japan’s Waseda University, a renowned institution that has produced intellectuals like the late Royal Prof Ungku Abdul Aziz Ungku Abdul Hamid. – Bernama, November 5, 2023.
