BERSATU has suspended Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid from the party for four years, after the Kuala Kangsar lawmaker announced his support for Anwar Ibrahim’s government, party secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said.

He said the party’s disciplinary board made the decision yesterday following a report against the Kuala Kangsar Bersatu division chairman.

“After looking into the evidence, the seriousness of the offence, implications, impact on the party and his show-cause letter, the disciplinary board committee has found him guilty.

“He is now suspended as a Bersatu member for four years effective November 3,” he said in a statement today.

The decision comes after Iskandar declared that he supported Anwar as prime minister while staying loyal to Bersatu on October 12.

He reportedly said he made the decision after studying the complaints of voters. He also emphasised the urgent need to address the rising cost of living.

Hamzah previously alleged that Iskandar was coerced into the position by a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission officer who met the latter in a hotel on October 1. – November 4, 2023.
