UNITY government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said the administration has no need to offer projects to MPs in exchange for their support.

He was responding to claims by two Perikatan Nasional (PN) lawmakers.

Fahmi said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s administration’s current support was sufficient, with the backing of 149 MPs.

“The prime minister also explained in parliament that he did not meet the two PN MPs who voiced their support for him,” he said in a statement to Bernama and RTM today.

Media outlets reported today that PN’s Besut MP Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh and Kubang Pasu MP Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail said they were offered projects in their constituencies in exchange for their support for the government.

Fahmi said PN secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin’s statement that most Malaysians want the opposition to take over the country was just to placate his supporters.

“It would be good if Hamzah manages to persuade his party leaders to accept the prime minister’s invitation from day one (to join the unity government as advised by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong) or when they were invited early this year.

“We even extended the invitation yesterday to meet with (Deputy Prime Minister ) Datuk Seri Fadilah Yusof and discuss the (constituency) allocation issue.

“PN would not lose face if it met and negotiated with us as urged by the prime minister,” he said. – Bernama, November 3, 2023.
