OPPOSITION leader Hamzah Zainudin today warned government lawmakers against getting Perikatan Nasional representatives to back Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

The opposition leader alleged several Perikatan Nasional (PN) lawmakers had been approached to support Anwar Ibrahim and the unity government.

Hamzah said they were offered incentives, including money, by unnamed individuals.

“PMX (Anwar), Stop this. Enough is enough. You can fight us in Parliament. What are you scared of?” the Larut MP said at a press conference today.

Kubang Pasu lawmaker Ku Abdul Rahman Ku Ismail and Besut MP Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh backed Hamzah’s claims, saying they received proposals via WhatsApp messages and emails from unknown people to build hotels in their constituencies.

Hamzah said those conversations would begin with proposals on development projects but veer into supporting the unity government.

The former home minister said PN would not report the issue to the police or authorities.

“We are collecting all details, including photos of those who are meeting with our leaders. We have to be sure of all this.

“(If we make a police report) some will say they did it for their love for the prime minister and in response, the latter will claim he doesn’t even know the person we’re accusing.

“Stop doing this sort of thing,” Hamzah said.

Over the past weeks, Bersatu’s Kuala Kangsar lawmaker Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid and Labuan lawmaker Suhaili Abdul Rahman pledged their support for the prime minister and his government.

Hamzah said the party issued show-cause letters to Iskandar and Suhaili over the matter.

The Bersatu secretary-general assured no other party members would shift their support to Anwar or the unity government.

“In our discussions over the past two nights, there were no other lawmakers who wanted to show their support for the prime minister,” he said.

Without naming anyone, Hamzah alleged some were intimidated into backing the prime minister.

“Only those who have problems (will show support for the PM).

“When some have issues with selected agencies, they use this as a weapon (to intimidate).

“They will claim to resolve their issues if the lawmaker backs the prime minister,” he said.

With Iskandar and Suhaili backing the government, Anwar’s administration has a two-thirds’ majority in parliament, which it lost when Muda’s Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman withdrew support for the unity pact. – November 3, 2023.
