THE number of flood evacuees in Perak continued to rise this morning, to 419 compared to 379 the night before.
One more shelter was opened, taking the total to five, to accommodate the new arrivals.
The State Disaster Management Committee secretariat said the evacuees were from Kampung Paya Kuak Luar, Kampung Bukit Serdang Air Panas, Kampung Kuak Tengah and Kampung Raja Kayu.
The Irrigation and Drainage Department said the water in Sungai Bidor in Changkat Jong had reached a dangerous level of 3.81m, compared to its normal height of 2m, while the Kinta River at the Tanjung Tualang Weir was at a warning level of 13.64m, compared to its normal height of 10m.
The Meteorological Department has forecasted thunderstorms in the afternoon in Hilir Perak, Manjung, Larut, Matang and Selama, Kinta, and Kuala Kangsar. The weather is expected to be fair all day in Kerian and Bagan Datuk.
Jalan Kubu Gajah Ijok-Sumpitan in Selama is still closed to traffic due to landslides. Motorists should take the alternative route of Jalan Pintasan Kampung Sumpitan-Kampung Masjid.
Jalan Proton City in Mualim is also closed to vehicles due to landslides while Jalan Selama in Kerian is only open to heavy vehicles. Motorists are advised to use the alternative route of Jalan Alor Pongsu-Bukit Merah Bypass. – Bernama, November 3, 2023.
