MALAYSIA held firm that developed countries must fulfil their commitment to support climate goals of developing countries, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said.

He said in line with the sustainability policy under Malaysia Madani, the federal and state governments would work together to deal with climate change in a holistic and integrated manner.

“This is one of the government’s initiatives to ensure the sustainability of the environment for the wellbeing of future generations,” he said in a Facebook post.

Anwar chaired the first National Climate Change Action Council (NCCAC) meeting for 2023 today.

He said the meeting focused on the proposal to strengthen NCCAC as the country’s main platform to coordinate climate change issues.

“The meeting agreed on the proposed policy to implement the national carbon market mechanism,” he said, adding that the Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry would ensure the mechanism was up to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change standards.

Anwar said he would lead a delegation to the World Climate Action Summit in December, which would be held alongside COP28 in Dubai. – Bernama, October 31, 2023.
