Berjaya Land gets leave to move Selangor Turf Club

BERJAYA Land Bhd has the green light from the Federal Court to proceed with its 19-year project to move the Selangor Turf Club in Serdang to Bukit Tagar, Sungai Tinggi, NST Online reports.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the company said the Federal Court had overturned a 2021 Court of Appeal decision to cancel the project and reinstated the 2017 orders of the Shah Alam High Court.

In a unanimous verdict, the Federal Court ruled in favour of in favour of Berjaya Land and its subsidiary companies, BerjayaCity Sdn Bhd and Berjaya Tagar Sdn Bhd. It imposed costs of RM80,000 on the Selangor government and the Federal Town and Country Planning Department.

The Federal Court directed the Selangor government and PLANMalaysia Selangor to resubmit Berjaya Land’s proposals for the relocation and construction of the new turf club to the National Physical Planning Council within three months of receiving the documents. 

It also ruled that Berjaya Land and its associated companies should be compensated for losses incurred due to the Selangor government and PLANMalaysia Selangor’s failure to fulfil their public duty since 2008. – October 31, 2023.
