Sabah 5G coverage reaches almost 50%

FIFTY percent of Sabah’s populated areas had 5G coverage as of September 30, said Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

He said 401 of the 622 5G sites planned for Sabah have been completed.

Fahmi said 90% of the state’s populated areas have 4G mobile broadband coverage, with mobile internet speed averaging 43.76mbps until the second quarter of this year.

“A total of 4,229 of the 4,281 transmitter stations have been upgraded to support the 4G network, while work on another another 52 stations is ongoing,” he said when speaking at the “Hari Bersama Komuniti” programme at Kampung Lohan Digital Economy Centre in Ranau today.

Fahmi said Phase 1 of the implementation of the National Digital Network in Sabah showed encouraging progress.

He said 186 of the 631 new communication towers have been built. – Bernama, October 29, 2023.
