Flood situation in Perak improves

THE flood situation in Perak has improved with more evacuees allowed to go home, leaving only 81 people at two relief centres as at 10am today, from 263 people yesterday.

This saw the SK Behrang centre in Muallim closed at 8.30am.

The Perak Disaster Management Committee said the two centres in operation were at the Padang Tembak Multipurpose Hall in Perak Hilir, which housed 40 victims from 12 families, and at the SK Changkat Lobak in Kerian, which was opened on October 24, housed 41 evacuees.

The Drainage and Irrigation Department said the level of Sungai Ijok in Larut Matang dan Selama was still past the 10m danger level at 12.15m.

Sungai Bidor in Changkat Jong also recorded a danger level of 3.93m. Its normal level is 2m.

The water level of Sungai Slim in Slim River has risen to a warning level of 25.21m, while Sungai Kinta at Weir Tanjung Tualang has reached the warning level of 14.05m.

The Meteorological Department forecasted storms and heavy rain in the evening in Perak.

The Perak Public Works Department said Jalan Kubu Gajah Ijok-Sumpitan in Selama was still closed to all vehicles due to landslides, with the public advised to use an alternative route on Jalan Pintasan Kampung Sumpitan-Kampung Masjid.

Another closed road was Jalan Proton City in Muallim due to landslides, while in Kerian, Jalan Selama was only open to heavy vehicles, with the public told to use an alternative road on Jalan A111 Alor Pongsu-Bukit Merah Bypass. – Bernama, October 29, 2023.
