THE nationwide crime index rate has fallen 1.1% with 25,482 cases logged from January to June compared with 25,774 in the same period last year, Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (Strategic Planning) deputy director K. Kumaran said.
He said 16,518 cases (64.8%) had been solved compared with the benchmark of 45%.
“This shows that for every 10 cases, six or seven cases were solved.
“Although the crime index shows a decline every year, we must not be complacent. We must instead work harder to ensure crime is curbed to ensure peace,” he said.
He said this at the closing ceremony of the Crime Prevention Awareness Programme 2023 organised by the Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation of Selangor today.
Kumaran however said there was an uptick in cybercrime cases.
He said in 2019, 13,703 cybercrime cases were recorded, with 17,227 in 2020 and 20,701 in 2021. – Bernama, October 28, 2023.
