MOE says won’t revive UPSR

EDUCATION Minister Fadhlina Sidek said her ministry would not revive the Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) despite calls for it to be reinstated.

Fadhlina said the ministry was focusing on the 2027 School Curriculum Implementation Survey.

“I urge all parents to focus on the (2027 School Curriculum Implementation Survey) roadshow as we want the widest possible engagement to obtain the input to enhance the nation’s education system,” she told reporters at SMK Saujana Indah in Nibong Tebal today.

The government decided to abolish the UPSR in 2021 after it was cancelled during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Fadhlina, who is also Nibong Tebal MP, said anyone with information about leakages linked to the RM70,000 given to each school for toilet repairs should report it to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

“We are monitoring the situation, but if there is any issue, I urge people to report it to MACC so these fraudulent activities can be handled by the authorities,” she said.

“We are channelling the funds in phases, including for the government-assisted schools,” she said.

Yesterday, Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman in her Facebook post said she was disappointed that there were issues with the project during a surprise visit to a school, and called for it to be addressed by contractors and the District Education Office. – Bernama, October 28, 2023.
