Police say no 'criminal injuries' found on man who died in custody


NO “criminal injuries” were found on the body of a man who died yesterday while detained at the Sungai Besar police station in Selangor, Bukit Aman said today.

Integrity and Standards Compliance Department director Azri Ahmad said a post-mortem at Sungai Buloh Hospital showed the deceased did not have Covid-19.

“The post-mortem found no criminal injuries. The cause of death is pending laboratory investigation,” he said in a statement

“The man was arrested on Thursday under section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. At 3.30am on Friday, personnel on duty found the man lying face down and unconscious. The medical team was immediately contacted to provide treatment.

“At 4.40am, the assistant medical officer attended to  the man and confirmed his death.”

Azri said the Criminal Investigation Unit on custodial deaths will continue the investigation before handing over its findings to the coroner. – Bernama, October 28, 2023.
