MIC said it would ensure some 800 Indian voters cast their ballots for the unity government candidate in the Kemaman by-election on December 2.

Its vice-president T. Murugiah said while the number of Indian voters in the constituency was small, their votes were crucial for the unity pact’s victory.

He said MIC machinery would ensure the group cast their ballots on polling day.

“Just as the Pelangai by-election, about half the Indian voters live outside the constituency, so we will look for their phone numbers and urge them to return to their hometown to fulfil their voting duties,” he said after attending the Terengganu MIC annual general meeting in Kuala Terengganu today.

Also present was state MIC chairman A. Mangleswaran.

Nominations and early voting have been set for November 18 and 28, respectively.

The by-election was called following the Terengganu election court’s decision on September 26 to annul the victory of PAS candidate Che Alias Hamid in the 2022 general election. – Bernama, October 27, 2023.
