AN internal rift in the Perlis PAS leadership is having an impact on Perikatan Nasional and state administration, FMT reports.

Quoting Perlis Bersatu chairman Abu Bakar Hamzah, the report said the infighting was over matters of religion and state governance.

“There is turmoil in PAS, there is no unity among us,” he said.

Abu Bakar said Bersatu does not plan to get involved in the fight but said he hoped the situation would soon be resolved to allow PN to focus on strengthening its machinery in Perlis.

Meanwhile, PAS spiritual leader Hashim Jasin was reported as saying that the internal rift in Perlis PAS was under control.

He said it would be resolved within a week.

In the general election last year, PN won 14 of the state’s 15 seats. Pakatan Harapan holds the remaining seat, Indera Kayangan.

PAS also has all three parliamentary seats in Perlis.

Barisan Nasional lost all 10 of the seats it won in 2018.
