RAIL users in Malaysia will be able to enjoy an open payment system for the light rail transit (LRT), mass rapid transit (MRT) and monorail services by August 2025, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said.

Loke told the Dewan Rakyat that public transport operator Prasarana Malaysia Bhd has begun work on a system that will be put in use by 2025.
“Prasarana will take up until February 2025 to equip 50% of the payment gantries at every station to enable the open payment system. By August 2025, open payments will be available to all gantries at every station,” he told the chamber.
He said the system, already used in cities such as London and Sydney, can be expanded to incorporate other payment modes such as QR scanners.
With the open payment system, commuters will be able to pay for the train fares via their MyDebit and credit cards, in addition to tokens and Touch ’n Go cards.
Commuters using the open payment system will be able to use it on the Kelana Jaya LRT, Ampang LRT, Kajang MRT, Putrajaya MRT and the monorail.
Meanwhile, Loke told lawmakers the KTMB automatic fare collection system has also been upgraded to support the open payment system.
“All 57 Komuter stations have been equipped with turnstiles that support open payment systems using credit card, debit card, Touch ’n Go, as well as QR code via the KTMB mobile app,” he said. – October 26, 2023.
