THE government will ensure that food supply remains stable in view of the rationalisation of diesel prices next year, Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli said.

He said targeted subsidies are important to ensure that only those who are truly in need would receive them, while strengthening the government’s fiscal position at the same time.

In his reply to a question in the Dewan Rakyat today on the increase in the price of goods due to the rationalisation of diesel prices next year, he said efforts are being taken to boost food security for the people in dealing with the impact from inflation, which is projected to be around 2.1-3.6% next year.

“For example, the government is implementing agribusiness initiatives under the People’s Income Initiative to ensure that the target group has sufficient income.”
